Floor is done!

So after we realized we couldn’t deal with the gouge in the middle of the floor we started over. Monday John rented the floor sanding machines. Then he resanded the floors and Lisa and I finished up around the walls. The terrific sanding job John did made it seem like we had brand new floors. Then Monday evening Lisa put on the stain and then John and Lisa took turns putting on 3 coats of varnish.

We also took the opportunity to change the stain color from cherry to golden oak, which we all thought would look better with the trim and Kitchen Cabinets.

This looks like brand new wood!

Crazy floor weekend

Well, we were off to a great start on Friday…I picked up the sander right after work and we got sanding by about 7. My folks, Dave & I sanded all day Saturday and we were staining by Saturday night… We thought all was well until Sunday morning… We noticed a gouge in the floor (about 10 ft long) directly off the front door…we thought this gouge was sanded out, but it came back after we stained it. After a full Sunday of the 4 of us trying to repair it..(sanding, staining over and over, etc)…we came to the conclusion it was never going to match and we’d always see it…so…we are starting over Monday!! :( yes, sanding the entire floor again…starting from scratch :( sad… First photo is midday Saturday, 2nd is Sunday morning…last photo is the gouge.

Tile in shower

Here is the new subway tile and floor tile for the new upstairs bath. Lisa did a fabulous job getting the tiel perfect! And John and Karen finished up the wall sheet rock and getting it ready for the plumbing and vanity. We are going to have the plumber come Wednesday.

Lisa\'s professional tiling job!

Finally another post! We’ve been busy doing misc things around the house and taking a little break. But we’re now focusing on getting the new upstairs bathroom ready. Here are pictures of our Memorial Day weekend work to get the shower backer board and floor boards so we can tile…

Closet Door

Here are a couple pictures of the closet door frame and track in the second bedroom. John custom built this in order to support the solid oak doors we’ll be putting in here…

Carpet installed

The same guys who put in carpet in Lisa’s parents and my house put in the carpet today! They did an awesome job with no damage to any of the trim. We finally are ready to move upstairs! Can not say enough for all the help her parents gave us throughout this entire process…Everything has turned out perfectly, thanks again!

Day before carpet

So over the past couple weeks we’ve been busy getting the upstairs ready for carpet. John did outstanding work acting as ‘project manager’ to make sure we got everything done right. He got all the trim pieces cut and preparing for the future post and railing at the top of the stairs. He also put in a trim piece along the top of the stairs that finishes that area nicely.

Lisa and her mom painted all the window frames white to match the trim as well as the floor board up the stairs. We also cleaned up a lot of nicks and what not and repainted a lot of the walls. Finally, not pictured here, but we finished off the second bedroom closet with a track for the doors and trimmed it out nicely.

Here are a few pictures I took tonight with the dogs checking out their new area to run around in…

So we almost have all the trim completed upstairs. Lisa’s folks put in a lot of work getting all the trim cut and nailed in.
